Ranga Niranthara has, for the past two decades, been setting milestones in theatre. Ranga Niranthara was born to infuse fresh life into stagnant Kannada amateur theatre by doing 150 days of unbroken theatre activity which was, and still is, unprecedented in Indian theatre. Ranga Niranthara always worked towards attracting young talent to theatre and creating opportunities for them to develop their talent. Ranga Niranthara continues its endeavours to do so under the able guidance of its president Shri D.K Chowta, a cultural icon himself.
CGK was renowned for attracting young talent to theatre and creating opportunities for them to develop their talent. Those brilliant directors, actors, and technicians that came out of the 150-day theatre activity are now well-known and are very active in theatre, on the small screen and on the silver screen.
Grama Samaja is another theatrical experiment by CGK who was always seeking novelty and innovation in theatre. He took about ten stories based on rural life and created/made this experiment with new and fresh talent. He introduced innumerable young artists to theatre through young directors who are always in search of new talent.
The ‘Playwright Workshop’ that he conceived and successfully conducted in collaboration with Department of Kannada and Culture was well-received and gave fifteen new plays to the Kannada theatre. At a time when there was a dire paucity of new, creative plays, the plays written based on Pampa and Kumara Vyasa’s writings/stories, infused innovation and filled that void.
